Ryan Christie has signed a new three year contract to stay at Celtic until 2021.

The midfielder has forced his way into Brendan Rodgers’ side in recent weeks, scoring three goals in his last five starts.

Christie capped off his immense breakthrough by playing a starring role in the win over Leipzig last week.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Christie explained his delight at the new deal.

“Celtic is the club I want to continue playing for,” Christie exclaimed.

“The manager has been brilliant with me. I really enjoy working under him and with the staff.”

Christie’s surge into Rodgers’ plans came at a perfect time for the club.

Celtic are suffering from an injury crisis at the moment, and in dire need of midfielders.

Scott Brown, Eboue Kouassi and Olivier Ntcham have all spent weeks on the sidelines. Christie’s emergence has softened the blow immensely.

There were many who fans who thought Christie’s time at the club would come to a whimpering end in the summer.

I doubt you’d have found a Celtic fan arguing whether he was worth a new deal a month ago.

Now the Celtic fans are delighted he’s staying for the next three years.

Can he keep it up?

The big question surrounding Christie is his ability to prove he is not a flash in the pan.

It is welcoming news that he has committed the next three years of his career to Celtic. However it remains to be seen if he can keep up his form under pressure.

Soon Celtic will have a bigger squad to choose from, and the January transfer window is around the corner.

Can Christie respond to the pressure and continue to make game winning contributions for the team?

If so, this won’t be the last new contract Ryan Christie signs at Celtic.
