The continued absence of Scott Sinclair from the Celtic squad has to be one of the most intriguing stories of this season.

The player was left out of the squad entirely for the recent 2-0 Europa League play-off win over AIK. That is not the first time that has happened this season.

It is such an unexpected situation for a player who has been integral to the Hoops winning the ‘treble treble’. Fans deserve to be told about the player’s current status at the club.

Celtic could do with player’s goalscoring ability

His form over the past three seasons has been too good to be jettisoned. Celtic could do with a player who is likely to score 15 goals this season.

With his lack of game time this season, it would have been good for the player if he had been able to leave the club in the August transfer window.

That is unlikely to happen now, unless a team from Europe comes in for him. The chances of him moving to a League One team are slim to nil.

Extending contract was a mistake?

It has to be said, it is looking like Celtic made an error in extending Sinclair’s contract in the summer, if they are not going to play him.

He didn’t have the best of seasons last year for the Hoops. However, he still managed to score 17 goals. Despite his goalscoring prowess, it is fair to say that he is not currently in Neil Lennon’s plans.

The fact that he can’t even get on the bench for important European fixtures seems ominous.

It will be interesting to see if he makes the Hoops squad for next weekend’s trip to Ibrox. That is a venue where he has thrived in the past.

However, unless something dramatic happens leading up to the game, you would imagine that he will not be involved.

The player’s lack of game time is certainly intriguing, and Celtic fans should be told why a key player of recent seasons is no longer being selected.
