The state of the Celtic Park pitch didn’t go beyond the Parkhead faithful’s head tonight.
Neil Lennon had been commenting on this in the build-up to this evening’s clash with Dundee United. The Hoops boss stated that the pitch was in poor condition simply due to the time of the year (The Scotsman).
However, to say we’ve had a timid winter would be an understatement. Whilst the cold has certainly been felt, it’s hardly been hectic.
The idea of Celtic’s new hybrid pitch was to make sure we were playing on an English Premier League standard pitch. Not one park in the top league down south looks like Celtic’s just now.
It was even more noticeable in this evening’s 3-0 win against Dundee United. The pitch was even more cut up than it was in last week’s win against County. That’s a concern considering it will be receiving plenty of attention in between games.
Celtic now have an 11-day gap before returning to Parkhead
It will be interesting to see how it looks in our next home fixture. Ibrox is looming on Saturday. Celtic’s next game afterward will be against Hibernian in Glasgow’s East End.
That gives us a nice 11-day gap before they’re back at Celtic Park again. It should give the club plenty of time to give the pitch a bit of TLC.

Granted, Lennon isn’t lying when he says that it isn’t affecting Celtic’s football. Once again, the Hoops could’ve battered the opposition tonight as they created a host of opportunities.
Better yet, the chances mainly came from the full-backs getting beyond the opposition backline. Everything tonight was mainly played on the deck, which backs Lennon’s theory further that our football isn’t being affected.
However, the worse the pitch gets, the more of a liability it is. And reacting to the way it looked tonight, here’s a look at what some Hoops fans on Twitter are saying:
