Lazio striker Felipe Caicedo injured ahead of Celtic clash

Lazio seemed to suffer a concerning blow last night as striker Felipe Caicedo had to come off with a shoulder injury against AC Milan.

Caicedo came on at the San Siro for Ciro Immobile on the hour mark with the score at 1-1. However, he lasted just 22 minutes before Danilo Cataldi took his place.

Immobile came off with a slight knock to the leg too. However, according to Cittaceleste, he was only substituted as a precaution – perhaps pointing to the idea of him starting on Thursday night.

And the same source has reported that Caicedo will now have to be monitored in the run-up to the Celtic clash. They state that his inclusion in the Europa League match is “not obvious”. This would leave Lazio lacking in attacking alternatives if Immobile and Joaquin Correa are misfiring.

Caicedo was a real bullish performer at Celtic Park. He threw himself into challenges and used his strength to get Lazio going on the counter. He started the game two weeks ago and proved to be a real menace.

However, there is a strong threat from all of Lazio’s top three forwards. Correa, for example, struck the post at Parkhead with the score at 1-0 in Lazio’s favour. Immobile then worked a great position for himself before fluffing his shot wide.

All three have proven they can hurt us with their pace, movement, and technique on the ball. But if Caicedo was to miss out, that would be one less problem for the Celtic defence to have to worry about.

Make no mistake, Thursday’s game is going to be a tall order. Celtic have enjoyed relative dominance in the group stage so far, but this week sees us take the trip to the group’s top seeds. A team that has won all three Serie A games since losing to us.

Caicedo’s omission would most certainly be a boost. However, when you look all around the Lazio squad, there’s still quality brimming in every position. It’s going to take a monumental effort to get anything in Rome. But with the squad Neil Lennon has managed to build, we can at least go there with confidence.

Celtic don’t have too many serious injury concerns of their own. With Olivier Ntcham and Mikey Johnston returning to the bench in recent times, it’s all the usuals who are still sidelined. Outside of Boli, there isn’t much to worry about.

Leigh Griffiths is surely unlikely to play a part as he continues to build up his own sharpness in training. Come Wednesday, Lenny will provide us all with an update during his pre-match presser.
