Fernando Henrique to Celtic link gets immediate backing from many Hoops supporters
The late-night transfer report linking Fernando Henrique to Celtic has certainly caught the keen attention of the Parkhead support.
Brazilian outlet Globo has reported that the Hoops have been in contact with the club to thrash out a potential January deal. Henrique is said to be valued at £3.6m.
The report claims that there could also be interest from the UAE too. However, the player is reportedly ready to move on and kickstart his career elsewhere after being frozen out of things in his homeland.
Enrique, a defensive-midfielder, has only managed a total of 16 outings for Gremio this season. However, only 4 of those have come in the Brazilian Serie A [Transfermarkt].
The 20-year-old has a contract with his current club that runs until the summer of 2024. Effectively, Gremio remain in an extremely strong position when it comes to the negotiating table. Henrique also only has a handful of senior games to his name, but it hasn’t stopped the reported interest of Hoops scouts.
Fernando Henrique to Celtic appears optimistic at face value
Many will see this report as a real positive for several reasons. Firstly, it potentially shows that Celtic are getting their house in order early with regards to the January transfer window. Given there’s still work to be done with the squad, we need to be ready to press forward as soon as the window opens and not be scrambling in the final few days for bargain signings.
Secondly, it also suggests that Celtic are expanding their search for new talent. That we won’t be rooted solely to the UK and European countries. Given our best signing this summer – Kyogo Furuhashi – came from the J-League in Japan, widening our reach will certainly please the support.
However, will Celtic really make a move for another midfielder? Especially a deeper-sitting one. The Bhoys have James McCarthy, Ismaila Soro, and Nir Bitton who can all play in that position. Sure, Postecoglou may want to put his own stamp on the position, but it’s still tricky to see happening.
Not that Celtic won’t spend money in the new year. It’s undeniable that there are areas of the squad that still need some tweaking. Clubs won’t be too willing to let go of talented players in the winter window too. You just wonder though whether this link is a touch optimistic.
Regardless, the Celtic support are certainly getting behind it. As they reacted to the kickstarting of the January rumours, here’s a look at how many fans responded on Twitter:
Exactly what we need. Soro Bitton Mccarthy not the answer unfortunately— Jasper (@jasperjack1967) October 21, 2021
