Filip Benkovic’s social media message proves that he doesn’t have an eye on coming back to Celtic.
The big centre-back hasn’t featured for a single minute this season at Leicester City. The Croatian has, instead, been dropped down to the under-23s. Leicester’s youngsters were in action last night against Blackburn Rovers in a 1-1 draw.

Benkovic’s lack of first-team minutes certainly isn’t what he needs at this stage of his career. Being on the cusp of international football last season will also have him wanting to get senior minutes ASAP.
But don’t bank on Benko looking for a move back up north anytime soon. Any rumours of discontent can be put to bed with his latest Instagram message. Click on the tweet below to see the Instagram story photo that Benkovic has put out.
Time to move on if it wasn’t already
Benkovic simply isn’t eyeing a move back to Scotland. It’s clear he wants to make a stab of it down in England, and you can hardly blame him either. For those who can’t see the message for whatever reason, he’s captioned the picture with the words “giving up is not an option”.
Meanwhile, there has been no evidence of Celtic even looking at the Croatian under-21 international as an option. He may have featured 27 times for the Hoops last season, but if Celtic were going to make their move for Benkovic, they would surely have done it by now.

Sure, you can see why there would maybe be some revived interest after his latest drop down to the youth team. But he won’t be too far down the pecking order at the King Power Stadium.
What will give supporters hope are the comments made towards the end of last season. Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers admitted he was open to sending him back to Celtic (Daily Record). Benkovic even admitted he would be open to a return as well (The Herald).

But that’s not the signal he’s giving out with his latest message. Considering Leicester also can’t bring in any more players now that the English transfer window is closed, it only adds to the doubts regarding Benkovic’s return.
So, to sum it up – Celtic aren’t looking at him and he isn’t looking at us. Any move for him, at this stage of the summer, looks highly unlikely.
