First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has urged Celtic and Rangers supporters not to travel and watch the upcoming derby in a pub setting, Sky Sports reports.
The Glasgow Times stated on Wednesday that several publicans in northern areas of England had been inundated with enquiries from supporters from both sides of the Glasgow divide.
The First Minister was asked about the issue in yesterday’s press briefing and couldn’t be more explicit with her instructions, specifically referencing any planned coach trips to Blackpool.
As quoted by Sky Sports, she said: “If you were thinking about going to Blackpool and haven’t booked, please do not go.
“Even more specifically, because we know this is an issue and I want to be very clear about this – do not travel to Blackpool this weekend to watch the Old Firm match in a pub.
“I need to advise you that trips to Blackpool are now associated with a large and growing number of Covid cases in Scotland.”
It goes without saying that the safest place to watch this weekend’s big match is inside your own home.
That’s as frustrating for me as anyone.
It would be magic to be able to go to Celtic Park or visit friends and family, or head to the pub to watch the game.
This is a massive match in the Celtic calendar and one that’s usually a social event.
Sadly, health authorities and the Scottish Government are having to fight back against another increase in coronavirus cases.

The time will come when we can all get back to enjoying the Bhoys like we’re used to.
As it stands, we’ll have to watch on from afar and hope Neil Lennon’s team can still put a smile on our faces.
In other news, the manager has provided a training update on Diego Laxalt ahead of the weekend fixture.
