Mikael Lustig is to leave Celtic after a seven-and-a-half year spell at the club. The 32-year-old said farewell to fans via Instagram and promised to return to the club in for a “ten-in-a-row party”.

Lustig would be entitled to come back to celebrate the potential achievement. He’s played a huge part in Celtic’s recent history and deserves all the credit he receives.

He’s also had some pretty amazing moments in his time at the club. Let’s take a look at our top five.

5 – Checking the pocket

You may notice a slight theme in our countdown. Lustig did enjoy rubbing it in against our fierce Glasgow rivals. He usually had good reason to as well. Here he is mocking Gers man Jamie Murphy during our 5-0 thrashing of the Ibrox side in April 2018.

4 – Beachball

18 months earlier, the Swede had been rubbing it in to another Rangers man. When Moussa Dembele netted his second against the Ibrox side – this time in a 5-1 win – Lustig mocked Joey Barton by running past the mouthy midfielder with a burst beachball on his head.

It wouldn’t be his favourite choice of hat though. More on that later.

3 – Ripped shirt

An endearing image of the Swede will be one taken earlier this season. Neil Lennon’s Celtic had just beaten Rangers 2-1 when a post-match melee took place. Lustig was central to the action and ended up with his shirt ripped.

The right-back didn’t seem to care too much though, as he once again mocked the Ibrox side’s players.

2 – Police hat

Perhaps the funniest Lustig moment arrived in that 5-0 game in 2018. Celtic had just gone 3-0 up through James Forrest and the Swede decided he would celebrate in bizarre fashion. He stole a policeman’s hat from a nearby officer and joined in the celebrations. It truly was a sight to behold.

1 – His final contribution

Despite all the hilarity, Lustig was also a good player on the pitch for Celtic. One of his final acts for the club was to set up the winner for Odsonne Edouard is last month’s Scottish Cup final victory over Hearts.

Lustig nodded the ball on to the advancing Frenchman who lifted the ball into the net to secure Celtic’s third successive treble. It was a fitting way for Lustig to bow out.
