Former Celtic goalkeeper Pat Bonner thinks the club are taking a huge risk with the reported pursuit of manager Ange Postecoglou.
Bonner, speaking on today’s edition of BBC Sportsound, feels that decision-makers at Celtic Park have massively dropped the ball in not being able to tie down Eddie Howe.
The club admitted yesterday in a statement they had been waiting on the former Bournemouth boss but that talks had collapsed.
Bonner told BBC Radio Scotland: “They have taken their eye off it. Peter Lawwell is leaving, apparently and maybe he has taken his eye off it and relaxed a little bit too.
“Dominic McKay doesn’t know too much about football as such and is relying on people like Peter to give him information about decisions. It’s not easy to make decisions when you don’t know the full picture and don’t have the knowledge or confidence in football.
“But its down to Dermot Desmond I presume. He called Brendan Rodgers. I know he went for others that didn’t come for different reasons. And now he’s been after Eddie Howe.
“So I think it’s Dermot Desmond who is pulling that decision to get a manager in. But I am flabbergasted they are going after someone now who doesn’t know European football. That is a huge chance to take.”
Celtic have badly mismanaged this situation at the worst possible time for club
If you’re not absolutely fuming with the club this week, I’m not sure what it’d take.
Yes, they claim the inability to appoint Howe was out of their control. However, putting so much trust in him in the first place, without any formal agreement, is what has caused this mess.
At the worst possible time too. Half our squad from the season past could be heading out the door. We’re changing CEO. Our captain has gone to Aberdeen.

We really needed decisive, brave action from the people trusted to run the club. Instead we’ve had more dithering. It’s at the point we’ve effectively kissed goodbye to our Champions League hopes next season.
None of it is Postecoglou’s fault, but the actions of the club have put him behind the eight-ball from the off.
