The pressure of playing for Celtic isn’t always for everyone, even if they are tipped for great things.

It’s even harder when you are brought in to replace a fan favourite who has gone on to become a Celtic legend.

Callum McGregor has filled the void left by Scott Brown in terms of leadership when it came to finding a player with the same skillset and tenacity, the chosen candidate never reached those heights.

Ismaila Soro released by Beitar Jerusalem two years after Celtic exit

Ismaila Soro is a name that brings back memories of a Celtic side that were going through a major transition.

Signed by Neil Lennon in 2020, the Ivorian failed to leave a mark on the club and made 43 appearances in two years before returning to Israel to sign for Beitar Jerusalem.

However, he’s failed to make a real impact and Beitar have since confirmed that he has been released at the end of his contract.

It’s the second time in two years that Soro has gone into the new season without a club and the 27-year-old will be on the hunt for a new adventure once again.

Ismaila Soro couldn’t handle Scott Brown pressure

Celtic fans never really saw the best of the midfielder, who struggled to adapt to life in Glasgow and at the start of his full season with the Hoops in 2021, admitted that he had found the pressure of trying to replace an icon all too much.

He told the Glasgow Times: It’s a very tough job to step into Scott’s shoes. First of all the captain is a really great player who I respect a lot.

“To be at such a big team for such a long time as captain says a lot about him. And it’s not just about the job he does on the pitch, it’s everything else. He is such an important figure at this club.

“Being the one who has to try and do the same job on the pitch is a big challenge.”
