Former A-League star Steve McGarry has stated that Celtic will only get better under Ange Postecoglou becuase the Hoops boss always manages to improve his teams year-on-year.
McGarry was at Perth Glory whilst Ange managed to rebuild Brisbane Roar from the ground up. Ange managed to win back-to-back titles in his homeland and has since won titles both in Japan and Scotland respectively.
He’s already reached cult-hero status at Celtic Park with pretty much every individual supporter having built up a strong level of trust in the Greek-Australian.
And McGarry believes things are only going to get even better under Ange given his record when it comes to building on success.
As quoted by the Daily Record, McGarry said: “He’s not afraid to try new things and to mix things up. As an opposition coach or manager, it is hard to second guess him because he is constantly trying to evolve and make his teams and players better.
“Ange’s teams definitely get stronger with every season. They won a couple A-Leagues when he was at Brisbane. He kept them winning at Roar and it’s hard in Australia because there is a salary cap and a lot of the teams have similar budgets and then it becomes more about your tactics and your recruitment.
“There are so many aspects that Ange can tweak and will use to his advantage. He’ll not only be improving their fitness but footballing IQ. Ralston is an example; he would have been on the periphery of the squad but is now a regular and in the Scotland side. Under Ange, he looks fitter, stronger, confident and an intelligent footballer who the manager is getting the most out of. He’s excelled and that’s what Ange does. That’s a sign of a good manager.”
Ange Postecoglou looking for Celtic improvement next season
Ange has already outlined himself that he wants the Hoops to come back bigger and better than we were this season. That was his message on trophy day as he stood on the Parkhead turf to soak in his first season success.
Of course, that’s something that needs to be a given when you consider the fact we’re operating in the UEFA Champions League next season. Ange won’t be accepting second best in that competition and he’ll be planning to make a splash in it.
The Celtic boss is the first ever Australian manager to manage in UEFA’s top competition. That means plenty of eyes will be on him from back home. The last thing he therefore wants is to be on the receiving end of defeat after defeat.
Making up the numbers has never been in this man’s thought process. His DNA is all about winning, and regardless of the group we draw in the UCL, he’ll be looking to pick up points against everyone.
To do that he’ll need some more bodies in the door. A left-back, centre-back, and striker look to be on the list this summer. However, we also need to wrap up deals for both Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers. Get that done and Celtic fans will be looking ahead to next season with supreme confidence.
Hopefully, Ange gets the backing he needs to really kick Celtic on next year. Building on a position of strength is imperative at this football club.
