Former Celtic manager Neil Lennon has been left perplexed by the lack of job opportunities available to him following his exit from the Bhoys in February.

Lennon left Celtic Park under a cloud earlier this year after the bid to win a tenth successive league title completely hit the buffers.

It was a big blow to his managerial reputation, certainly amongst large sections of the Celtic support.

However, the former club captain is unsure why he’s not been able to find work since then.

Speaking to The Sunday People [14/11 print edition, page 54], he said: “It’s frustrating. Some people probably assume that I’m not looking for a return to management because of the way it ended at Celtic. But nothing could be further from the truth.

“I’m still relatively young, as hungry as ever and believe I would bring something to any club. And I’d like to think my track record compares favourably to most.

“Some players just got to the end of the road. The pandemic hit us badly, because once we returned to action, we were never the same again. I still look back with immense satisfaction at what I did achieve. But one or two people have short memories.

“It is a bit of a mystery. I think I’ve done a decent job wherever I’ve been.”

So, he’s not a happy man then.

Some will undoubtedly see this as just the latest rant from a manager who is still holding on to grievances from last season.

However, playing devil’s advocate, Lennon has won a lot of trophies in his career, as well as worked with and developed some top players. He’s right to stick up for himself even if it’s not a fashionable view right now.

I’m not sure what level of job he is looking for, but I don’t see why he couldn’t find a role elsewhere in the Scottish Premiership or English lower leagues if clubs are looking.
