Former Celtic boss Ronny Deila has been linked with a high-profile managerial job. The manager, who won titles with the Hoops, has been linked with the job at MLS side New York City FC.
Norwegian outlet TV2 is reporting that Deila, who currently manages Valerenga, is ‘very likely’ to take over at the New York based team, even though he only recently signed a new contract with his current side.
Would reunite with former Hoops winger
Should Deila take the job he will reunite with his former Celtic player Gary Mackay-Steven, who plays for the MLS side.
This would certainly be a high-profile job for Deila, who has been out of the limelight for the most part since leaving Celtic in 2016.
Since he left the Hoops, Deila has managed his current club since January 2017. However, after three seasons, he could be on his way to New York.
Victim of bad luck during time at club
Deila was perhaps a victim of bad luck as Celtic boss. He really should have led the Hoops to a treble in his first season at the club, only to be denied by a dreadful refereeing decision in the Scottish Cup semi-final loss to Inverness.
It has to be said that performances in his second and final season at the club were poor, especially in Europe. However, that doesn’t take away from the fact that a treble should have been won. He did also manage to win the league title twice, which deserves credit.
Deila now has a chance to add more trophies to his resume, should he take the job in New York. Most Celtic fans will wish him well, as he did what he had to do in his time at the club, which is win the league title. Hopefully if Celtic get to celebrate 10 league titles in a row, Deila will be invited back to the club for the celebrations, he has earned that right.
