Former Celtic B coach Tommy McIntyre has landed a new coaching role after leaving the Bhoys in the summer.

McIntyre worked in a variety of development roles across a 12-year stint at Celtic but after a rethink of the Celtic B set-up in the summer was replaced by Darren O’Dea and Stephen McManus sharing joint duties.

He hasn’t had to wait long for a new opportunity, quickly arriving at ambitious Scottish Championship side Queen’s Park to become their academy’s new Head of Coaching, working with players from U15 level right up to their main development side.

McIntyre told Queen’s Park website: “I’m delighted to be joining Queen’s Park Football Club. It’s an honour and a privilege to be working with such an innovative and forward-thinking club. Over the last few months, I held extensive discussions with Marijn [Beuker, Director of Football], where he outlined the club’s vision and plans.

“I’m excited and passionate about being given the opportunity to become part of that. Everyone within the club has given me such a warm welcome and l thank the many people who helped in making this happen. Now I’m looking forward to getting to down to work.”

Meanwhile, Beuker said: “The last few months we have been busy building the football organisation to make us ready for the future, with a lot of focus on innovative training methods, science, and data-analysis.

“With the addition of Thomas Ruensink and another coordinator who will be announced soon to lead the youth/pro program, I was looking for an experienced top coach with specific expertise, who understands Scottish football and can act as a sounding board for all staff. Tommy fits that profile fantastically.”

Queen’s Park have had a lot of investment over the last couple of years and are currently locked in a promotion battle to make it into the Scottish top tier, so this could well be a move that works out well for McIntyre.

Working with former AZ Alkmaar man Beuker, manager Owen Coyle and chief executive Leeann Dempster, there is undoubtedly an opportunity to help establish a new Premiership-level side.

The very best of luck to Tommy in his new role!
