Former Celtic defender Cristian Gamboa is helping his VFL Bochum team out massively this afternoon after scoring an absolute screamer against Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich.

Bayern were obviously much-fancied to win today’s league encounter and predictably went ahead through Robert Lewandowski.

However, they find themselves a massive 4-1 down at the time of publishing in the second half, with Gamboa scoring his team’s third of the day.

It was a beauty too, with clips circulating on social media of the former Celtic star’s effort for the Germans. He surged into the box after nutmegging a player and playing a one-two, before pinging a powerful shot into the top corner past Sven Ulreich.

Gamboa has been a regular for Bochum since joining the club from Celtic in 2019. He’s made 73 appearances in all competitions since then, helping them win promotion from the second-tier into the big time.

They’ve established themselves as a decent mid-table side in the top-flight, but a statement victory against Bayern today would really turn heads, with Gamboa’s goal likely to be shared far and wide.

The right-back never really fully fit in at Celtic. Signed by Brendan Rodgers, he failed to displace Mikael Lustig and eventually left the club when Neil Lennon came in as manager.

It’s great to see him doing so well though and stealing the headlines in such a manner.

What a victory it would be if his team could see it out!
