Many Arsenal fans seem to want former Celtic favourite Kieran Tierney installed as the club’s new captain, after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was stripped of the honour today.
The London club released a statement on Tuesday, confirming that the Gabon striker would no longer be the club’s captain.
They added: “We expect all our players, particularly our captain, to work to the rules and standards we have all set and agreed.”
Already, speculation has turned to who will place Aubameyang at the club’s on-field leader, with many Arsenal fans putting forward the name of Tierney.
The former Celtic Invincible has recently returned to the Arsenal first-team after injury, and got an assist in their 3-0 win over Southampton on Saturday.
He is loved by the support, and they reckon he should be in line for a big career step-up.

Arsenal fans have their say on former Celtic great Tierney
And that’s just a fraction of the responses.
Just search “Tierney captain” on Twitter and you’ll see hundreds of tweets, saying what we all think.
Arteta is likely to keep it safe with his Aubameyang replacement, likely giving it to a senior member of the squad like Alexandre Lacazette or Granit Xhaka. (paininthearsenal.com)
But Tierney should definitely be a contender. He learned his stuff at Celtic under one of our greatest captains ever.
He learned what it meant to win, and deal with disappointment. Arsenal could do with tapping into a bit of that.
Otherwise, Tierney will soon outgrow the London club.
