Former Celtic hero Aiden McGeady has found his next Scottish club and taken a new career step.
The 37-year-old has signed a two-year deal with Championship outfit Ayr United, as was confirmed by the Somerset Park club on Friday afternoon.
But that’s only half of the story with McGeady also taking on an intriguing off-the-pitch role with the Ayrshire side.
Ayr tweeted: “The club are delighted to announce the signing of Aiden McGeady on a 2-year-deal!
“A free agent following his departure from Hibernian, McGeady now makes the switch to Somerset Park and also takes up the role of Technical Manager.”
Just last week we brought you some comments from McGeady about his next career move.

“I like coaching and I think I would be selfish not to pass on my experience to others,” he said. “But I’m also interested in other parts of the game: recruitment, organising a club, managing people.”
Lee Johnson, his manager at former club Hibernian, had also revealed that McGeady had been doing a Sporting Director course. So it seems like this has been in the offing.
So the former Republic of Ireland international has got the best of both worlds with this move, even if he has had to drop out of the Scottish top-flight.

He will continue to play, and probably impact, games in the Championship. On top of that, he’ll get a chance to work behind the scenes at a good club.
It’ll be interesting to see how both jobs go, and whether a role at Celtic is in the offing one day.
