Former Celtic hero Kieran Tierney took part in the return of English football this evening, starring for Arsenal away to Manchester City at the Etihad.

Tierney had been out of action since December after suffering a shoulder injury that required surgery so it was pleasing to see the boyhood Hoops fans get back on track in his post-Celtic career tonight.

Prior to the behind closed doors fixture, the left-back had managed to make just five Premier League appearances since leaving Celtic for a record fee last summer.

A hip injury had halted his progress prior to the shoulder issue.

His £25m move was controversial within some sections of the Celtic support at the time but, with hindsight, most can surely see it was the best move for the club.

Still, there’s definite curiosity about how his career will pan out after his Glasgow exit, with his lack of progress at the Emirates raising questions about his long-term future in England.

Outlet 90min.com reported earlier this month that the Gunners were willing to move him on this summer, even if they made a loss on the £25m they spent last year.

Leicester City and former boss Brendan Rodgers were credited with an interest.

However, it seems he’s become something of a favourite with some Arsenal supporters, with many taking to Twitter tonight to share their impressions of the 23-year-old’s performance.

Arsenal’s display ultimately came off the rails after two City goals, that propelled the home side to an eventual 3-0 victory, but some were still impressed by what the Scotland international has to offer.

At the very least, he put in quite the shift, playing all 90 minutes of the fixture in a ten-man team.

That adulation and effort perhaps bode well for Tierney’s future in London.
