Former Celtic midfielder Tom Rogic has today completed a move to join English Championship side West Bromwich Albion.

The 29-year-old has been on the hunt for a new club this summer after bringing his nine-year stay at Celtic Park to an end.

Rogic was seen as a huge fans favourite amongst the supporters after creating many special memories during a successful period in the club’s history.

Despite still having a further year on his deal at Celtic, the Socceroos internationalist took the decision to move on to another challenge.

The attacking midfielder was given a fantastic send-off at Parkhead on the final day of last season, as he and fellow long-serving teammate Nir Bitton said their goodbyes.

Many Celtic fans expected Rogic to be snapped up this summer, with a player of his quality being a fantastic addition on a free deal for any club.

However, instead, Rogic remained out of the limelight and took the time over the summer to enjoy his break away from football.

Upon the end of transfer deadline day, the ex-Celtic man remained without a club. But, as a free agent, the midfielder was still able to be picked up by a new side.

Reports late last week indicated that Rogic was in line for a surprise move to join English Championship side, West Brom. And today the club, currently managed by Steve Bruce, announced the signing of the Hoops hero on a one-year deal, with the option of a further 12 months.

Speaking for the first time since his move, Rogic said [West Brom]: “I heard about the club’s interest in me about a week ago, I spoke with the manager, who seems like a really good guy, and I spoke with my agent, and here we are.

“I was looking for a change of scenery and a fresh challenge. I didn’t just want to rush into anything. I think it was important for me to take my time and make sure my next club was the right club. I had some time to reflect, and I now feel refreshed and re-energised, and excited about the future. I’m really looking forward to getting started at Albion.

“I think it’s fair to say the team hasn’t got the results the performances have warranted so far this season. I know that the manager and the boys are looking to change that as quickly as possible.”

His new boss also added: “Tom is a quality player who has played nearly 300 games for Celtic, including a significant number of games just last season.

“He has proven to be a quality player, a serial winner, and a top professional. He can play in several positions across midfield, and I’m confident he will prove to be a great acquisition for the club. I’m delighted to have him with us.”

As mentioned, this move to the second tier in English Football might come as a slight surprise to the Celtic support. However, I have no doubt at all that the Parkhead faithful hope to see the Aussie internationalist succeed south of the border.

Rogic has been a brilliant servant to the club during his nine years spent in Glasgow, and many fans would agree that the elegant midfielder was a fantastic player to watch.

It is great to see that he now finally has a new home, and we wish Tom all the best for the season ahead with West Brom!
