Former Celtic loan star Charly Musonda has published an inspirational Instagram message as he revealed that doctors have advised him that there’s no way back for his career.

Musonda has been plagued with major knee troubles over the last two years since leaving Parkhead.

It’s taken such a massive grip on his career that the Belgian under-21 international’s last game came back in August 2019. His most recent absence was due to knee surgery, where doctors stated that he now has an impossible hill to climb to play football again.

However, speaking via his official Instagram page, Musonda spoke with an upbeat tone as he looked to defy the medical advice and work hard to make a career in the game.

You can’t not feel for him

It’s probably pretty telling that Musonda’s most consistent period of game-time in the last few years has come at Celtic Park.

Brendan Rodgers only utilised him on eight occasions and gave him a short run of games at the start of his loan spell back in February 2018 (Transfermarkt). However, since dropping to the bench at Parkhead from there on, it’s only gone downhill for him.

It was the season after that when his knee started flaring up when he was sent out on loan from Chelsea to Vitesse Arnhem. He only made one appearance for them in the 2018/19 campaign for, and added only four more last season.

Still on the books at Chelsea until the summer of 2022, the next 12-24 months will be huge in Musonda’s career. After being hyped up so much earlier on in his career (he made his Belgium under-21 debut at only 17 years of age), he could do with a break.

It looks like it’s going to be another season of barely kicking a competitive ball, but that won’t be his goal this year. Building up his strength to a position where he can make a loan spell work has to be his motivation.

Hopefully he does. Musonda gave his all on the rare occasions he featured for Celtic – his talent doesn’t deserve to fade into obscurity.
