Mackay-Steven is currently at Aberdeen where he played 30 games last season. Portsmouth are also rumoured to be interested in his services but a potential move to the States looks like being a clincher for the winger.

Mackay-Steven’s departure would significantly weaken Aberdeen’s attacking options and that can only be a good thing from a Celtic point of view.

Celtic career

GMS had a strange Celtic career in truth. He joined the club from Dundee United in January 2015 and went on to play 62 times, scoring ten goals. He impressed in right from the off, scoring his first goal 37 seconds into his debut.

The winger enjoyed his most prolific season in 2015/2016 when he netted six striker. However his playing time faded when Brendan Rodgers came to the club. The likes of Patrick Roberts and Scott Sinclair were ahead of him in the pecking order and he had to wait for isolated opportunities.

The 28-year-old was always a bit of a fans favourite for the way he carried himself on and off the pitch. Celtic fans will no doubt wish him all the best if he does make the switch to New York.
