Former Celtic academy youngster Brody Paterson has completed a move to join English League Two side Hartlepool United.

The 21-year-old full-back recently departed Parkhead after around eight years with the club upon the expiry of his current contract.

Paterson enjoyed strong loan spells at Queens Park and Airdrieonians within the last two seasons and was also a regular for the Celtic B side during the first half of the Lowland League campaign.

After leaving Celtic, the defender has been weighing up his options and recently held a trial with Scottish Championship side Raith Rovers [The Courier].

However, this afternoon, English League Two side Hartlepool United announced that the left-back has signed a two-year deal down south.

The move also means that Paterson will be linking up with another former Celtic connection after ex-midfielder Paul Hartley recently took his first managerial role in England at Hartlepool.

Reacting to the move, Hartley said [Hartlepool United FC]: “Delighted to bring Brody to Hartlepool. He is someone I saw a lot during his time with Airdrieonians last season.

“He’s a good young player who can give us a few options in terms of positions. He has had a good grounding at Celtic and gained some great experience. We’re really looking forward to working with him over the course of the season.”

Paterson also added: “As soon as I heard about the opportunity, it was a no-brainer. I am excited to work with the Gaffer and play in front of these incredible fans. I have been into training, and all the lads a great.

“You can tell everyone is excited for the new season ahead.”

Paterson became the latest academy prospect to depart after the expiry of his contract this summer.

Two successful loan spells for Irish midfielder Barry Coffey have led to the 21-year-old being awarded a permanent deal at Cork City, which was also announced earlier today.

Funnily enough, Coffey is also linking up with another Celtic man, in Colin Healy who is currently boss at Cork.

Although these players may not have progressed right through to the first team, hopefully, the club have set them up well for a successful career to come in football.

We wish them all the best for the future!
