Former Celtic central-defender Stephane Henchoz will help Rangers boss Steven Gerrard prior to their match against Young Boys on Thursday.

The Ibrox side are in Berne to take on the Swiss champions and 45-year-old Henchoz is to come to the aid of his former teammate Gerrard. The 45-year-old, who played briefly for Celtic in 2005, is effectively working as a last minute scout for the Ibrox side – as Gerrard confirmed on Wednesday.

“I haven’t spoken with Stephane yet,” he told the Scottish Sun.

“We have obviously covered the games and Sion lost here 3-2 at the weekend.

A new dawn beckons for Celtic in Europe, as Joe Hart shows his class once again

“It was an interesting match and it summed up Young Boys.

“By the time kick-off comes around, I will have spoken with Stephane about them. It’s going to be an interesting game.”

The news that Henchoz is helping our rivals isn’t too likely to go down well with Celtic supporters, although the majority are unlikely to care. The big defender was a bit of a bombscare in his time in Scotland and wasn’t remembered too fondly by Hoops fans as it was.

Hopefully he is as poor a scout as he was a player and he helps the Swiss outfit to a comfortable win. That should set us up nicely for the big one at Celtic Park at 8pm.
