Former Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong is still optimistic despite not making the last Scotland squad.
Armstrong has been in the past few squads but missed out on the Russia and San Marino selections. The current Southampton man is having an up and down time down south which is probably to blame.
However, the 27-year-old is back in for the game against Cyrpus and will use that to prove his worth.
Stuart Armstrong on being Scotland outcast
With the Hoops, Armstrong reinvented himself to become one of the team’s top players.

Armstrong got a well deserved move to the Saints but he’ll admit it’s not been plain sailing for him. He is playing less for the relegation bound side.
The same could be said for his latest round of Scotland showings, but Armstrong won’t back down from the team.
He told the Scottish Sun: “I always enjoy coming away with Scotland, seeing old faces. Playing for your country is always an honour, so I’m always happy to be among the group.

“I don’t think I would ever turn down the opportunity to come away with Scotland.
“Playing for your country is the best thing in football for me.”
Celtic can offer a possible escape route to Scot star
Armstrong admits that he is enjoying the Premier League but confesses it isn’t smooth. The Saints are in a bit of a predicament in the league table and Armstrong isn’t getting a concrete run of games.
If Southampton were to take the drop, then a whole host of players could be leaving.

Armstrong will want to stay and fight for his place in the team, that’s how he is, but it doesn’t always work that way.
Neil Lennon though would surely love the Inverness born midfielder in his team to give it an extra spark. Lennon’s Celtic like to press and Armstrong’s inclusion would give more firepower with Callum McGregor and Ryan Christie.
Armstrong is experienced and was a top quality player – he can remain assured he would be welcomed back to Parkhead with open arms…even if it’s just to hear his song again.
