Former Celtic midfielder Landry Nguemo has sadly passed away at just 38 years old following a road accident near his hometown Obala, Cameroon.
The ex-Cameroonian international enjoyed a distinguished footballing career that saw him star for Nancy, Celtic, Bordeaux, Saint-Ettiene, Akhisar Belediyespor, Kayserispor and Kongsvinger.
Moving to Parkhead at the beginning of the 2009/10 campaign, he spent one season on loan, making 43 appearances under Tony Mowbray.
He also played 41 times for the Cameroon national team, establishing himself as a regular in the Indomitable Lions’ midfield between 2006 and 2014.
Former club Saint-Ettiene issue condolences
L’Equipe have reported that Nguemo was involved in a road accident that caused his tragic passing, and there has been an outpour of respects paid to a much-loved figure in the game.
His former club Saint-Ettiene have issued their condolences to their former midfielder, which read through translation: “Landry Nguemo has left us. Far too soon, far too abruptly. ASSE mourns one of its own. To all his loved ones, we send our most sincere condolences.”
From a Celtic perspective, we at 67 Hail Hail also send our thoughts and love to his family. Nguemo was a talented footballer, but most importantly, he was someone loved by many people who will be mourning his passing at this sad time.
Supporters only got to see him in action at Parkhead for a small portion of his career; nevertheless, he left a lasting impression at the club. Rest in Peace, Landry Nguemo.
