Former Celtic midfielder Dylan McGeouch has returned to football after facing a short spell as a free agent, joining EFL side Forest Green Rovers.

The 29-year-old has enjoyed a somewhat successful career in the United Kingdom, playing for clubs in Scotland and England.

His professional career kicked off at Celtic Park under Neil Lennon after spells in both the Hoops and Rangers academy systems.

McGeouch went on to play 27 times in total for the Bhoys, with his best moment coming during the 2011/12 season after a produced a stunning solo strike in a 5-0 win over St Mirren.

However, his time came to an end at Parkhead following two separate loan spells at Coventry City and Hibernian. After his stay in the capital, the midfielder went on to make his move permanent.

After lifting two Scottish Premiership titles with the Hoops, McGeouch’s next two trophies came at Easter Road as part of the squad that lifted the Scottish Cup before winning the Scottish Championship the season following.

His success at Hibernian led to another move down south, joining Sunderland as he looked to help them climb back through the English leagues.

However, similar to his spell at Hibs and the next few clubs, injury proved to be a big factor, with McGeouch struggling to stay consistently fit.

A two-year spell down south came to an end when he returned to Scotland with Aberdeen, where the former Celtic man most recently played his football.

Dylan McGeouch finds new club as he returns south of the border once again.

But during the summer, the midfielder found himself on the hunt for a new club after it was confirmed that he had been released by the Pittodrie side.

In recent months, McGeouch has been out of football, unable to find a new team. Instead, the Scotland international was training with David Martindale and his Livingston squad.

However, his time as a free agent was brought to an end after it was announced on Tuesday that he had signed for English League One side Forest Green Rovers.

And he was thrust straight into the action with his new club, being named in the starting lineup and playing 60 minutes in their penalty shootout defeat to Cheltenham.

McGeouch found himself playing alongside another former Celtic youngster, with one-time academy prospect Regan Hendry enjoying his time at the club.

It is never nice to see players without a club for an extended period of time. So, thankfully, McGeouch has made his return and is straight back into playing games.

With Forest Green currently sitting bottom of the third tier in English Football, the midfielder now has the task of taking them out of the relegation zone and to safety.
