Celtic is a club that many players would like to play for, but one former star admitted that he initially had doubts.

The Hoops are going to have a busy transfer window this summer and will need players that are fully committed.

Martin O’Neill is already on scouting missions for future targets and he will hope that anyone coming to Parkhead won’t want to try and cancel at the eleventh hour.

Jeremie Frimpong said he tried to cancel Celtic deal

Jeremie Frimpong is a perfect example of how the Celtic model can work by buying young, talented players and selling on for profit.

He owes a lot to Celtic and is very grateful for his opportunity; however, Frimpong has confessed that he tried to cancel the deal 10 minutes before signing.

“I do remember saying to the driver, turn around. He was never going to turn around. I told him turn around when we was in Glasgow. That trip was long,” he told The Craft.

“I was in Glasgow, I was maybe from Celtic Park 10 minutes away. But he kept driving.”

Thankfully he didn’t and as a result, Frimpong earned Celtic some extra cash last summer after joining from Liverpool following an excellent spell with Bayer Leverkusen.

Celtic need to find the next Jeremie Frimpong

They don’t necessarily need to find a carbon-copy right-back, especially now that Julian Araujo is out for the season, but a player who is young and hungry to prove themselves.

Callum Osmand has shown signs that he could follow a similar pathway to Frimpong, who arrived young and has developed into an elite level full-back.

These are the sort of players that Celtic thrive on developing and going into the market to obtain that sort of talent needs to be a priority.
