Celtic heroes of the past often take on intriguing career ventures after retirement, and supporters watch on with interest to see how they fare in positions of influence.

Whether it be in coaching, punditry or elsewhere, it always feels a little strange to see Hoops icons of yesteryear far removed from their time as a player at Parkhead.

Charlie Mulgrew is someone who falls into that category and is currently a coach with Hamilton Academical’s Under-18’s as the former Scotland international cuts his teeth in the dugout.

Alongside his coaching work, Mulgrew is a regular on the punditry circuit talking about Celtic and has earned plaudits due to his light-hearted nature and precise insight on air.

However, he could be set for a fresh challenge as reports circulate claiming the former Bhoys defender is set for talks over a first senior managerial role.

Kelty Hearts set for talks with Charlie Mulgrew

According to The Daily Record, Kelty Hearts are lining up Mulgrew for their managerial position as Michael Tidser is on the verge of leaving for Dunfermline Athletic.

Talks are set to take place between both parties as compensation is thrashed out before Tidser and Kevin MacDonald head to East End Park.

Mulgrew is one of the names on the list and is keen to go into management after a distinguished playing career spanning two decades.

Presumably, he could call on some of his old friends from time spent at Celtic while assembling his coaching staff, but supporters will need to wait and see on that front.

Kelty Hearts would be a good starting point for Charlie Mulgrew

Sitting third in Scottish League One, Kelty Hearts have enjoyed a remarkable ascent up the lower leagues since earning promotion in 2021.

Stability is key for managerial success, and the Fife-based outfit are certainly a club on the rise amid their desire to rise further up the pyramid.

Hopefully, Mulgrew can enjoy success at New Central Park if Tidser’s departure to Dunfermline is indeed ratified.
