Former Celtic star Chris Sutton has weighed into the debate on Scottish refereeing and the decision of John Beaton on Wednesday night.

Beaton gave Rangers a dubious penalty at home to Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership, allowing them to equalise the match. The draw ensured that Steven Gerrard’s side stay two points ahead of Celtic, rather than one.

And Sutton isn’t a happy man, blasting Beaton on television tonight.

Speaking on BT Sport’s Scottish Football Extra show, he said: “I think it’s the worst decision I’ve ever seen in Scotland. It was the worst decision. He guessed.

“He’s totally incompetent I’m afraid. I genuinely had to watch it three times to believe that it was given.”

Ally McCoist agreed with his fellow pundit that it was a poor decision. That a Rangers man is saying it sums everything up really.

Beaton has only taken charge of one Celtic game so far this season, in the League Cup match against Hearts. So he’s probably due another Bhoys assignment soon.

In the meantime, Bobby Madden visits Celtic Park tomorrow after taking charge of the Aberdeen clash at Pittodrie, where he blew for 37 fouls and completely disrupted the game.

That’s something Ange Postecoglou spoke out about earlier today, so all eyes will be on what we see from Scottish referees tomorrow.

In other news, Celtic Invincible tells new club that Bhoys will always “stay in my heart”.
