Former Celtic favourite, and 67 Hail Hail regular, Scott McDonald was back playing football on our screens earlier today, at the age of 38.

The ex-Hoops striker, who was signed by Gordon Strachan in 2007, was playing in the last 16 of the Australian FFA Cup.

Gold Coast Knights, who McDonald actually manages, were facing the might of Melbourne Victory – who Ange Postceoglou managed between 2012 and 2013.

The Victory are currently top of the Aussie A-League – but were taken to extra time by second-tier Knights before winning 2-1.

McDonald showed he still has some class from Celtic days

McDonald actually subbed himself on after 68 minutes, in a match that was shown live on BT Sport in this country.

That meant that Hoops supporters were able to watch ‘Skippy’ in live action, more than a decade on from his Celtic departure.

McDonald seemed to be playing in a deeper role than his time in Scotland, breaking up attacks and linking the play in the midfield.

He didn’t have any clear cut opportunities to speak of, but showed he still has enough in his locker even at the age of 38.

McDonald’s side are currently 6th in the NPL Queensland – with 46 points from their 26 games so far.

His side’s run to the last 16 of the national cup shows that he has something about him as a coach.

Maybe, one day, we’ll see him back at Celtic Park in some capacity.
