Former Celtic striker Andy Walker believes that the Hoops won’t repeat the gamble of bringing in another big name manager like Brendan Rodgers.

The Sky Sports pundit thinks that interim manager Neil Lennon is likely to get the job as he is the ‘cheaper’ option.

“The priority at Celtic is to get that wage bill down” Walker said, as reported by the Scottish Sun.

“In order to do that you might bring in someone who’s available, who’s cheaper than Rodgers and who’s capable of doing the job. Neil Lennon ticks all the boxes.”

Walker’s claims about the ‘priority’ at Celtic could be correct. If so, that will be deeply disappointing for the Hoops support.

Should Lennon guides the Hoops to a treble he would have to be considered a real contender for the job. No matter how much ‘cheaper’ he is than Rodgers.

Too early to tell

It is still too early to tell who the next Celtic boss is going to be. Walker’s comments are a tad presumptuous about the Hoops board.

It should not be forgotten that Leicester City reportedly paid Celtic £9 million to entice Rodgers and his staff from Glasgow.

Who is to say that Celtic won’t reinvest that money in a high-profile manger such as Rafa Benitez? We shall find out soon enough where the Celtic board’s priorities lie.
