Former Celtic striker might still turn club a profit, with Arsenal reportedly interested
Celtic need every penny going towards top players this summer, and it turns out Arsenal might help.
While it’s indirect, Arsenal’s interest in Moussa Dembele [Telegraph], could see the Bhoys receive a transfer dividend. Celtic could net 10-15% of any deal that takes Dembele to another club [Daily Record]. While it hasn’t quite worked out on loan at Atletico Madrid, the Gunners need to buy strikers. His goal-scoring record prior to his Madrid move speak volumes.
According to the Telegraph:
“It is understood that [Arsenal] have looked into Dembele’s possible availability this summer, when the Frenchman’s loan spell at Atletico Madrid comes to an end.
“The Spanish side have an option to buy Dembele for around £30million but it remains to be seen whether they will choose to exercise that option.
“It is believed that the 24-year-old could be available for around £25m this summer, although Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas is seen to be one of Europe’s toughest negotiators.”
No question Moussa Dembele could do a job for Arsenal
Linked with several high-profile moves since before he left Celtic, Moussa Dembele is a mainstay in gossip columns. The tall French striker is still missed at Parkhead, especially given his outrageous 51 goals and 18 assists in 94 Celtic outings. 32 of those came in a magnificent 16-17 season. Dembele’s goals propelled Celtic to an unbeaten domestic season in all competitions.
Fitness has been the primary issue with Dembele in 20-21. A spell out saw Lyon coach Rudi Garcia shift Memphis Depay into the middle, and opportunities became limited. A period of rejuvenation at Atletico seemed on the cards. However, Los Rojiblancos have stuttered in the second half of their season. While still top of La Liga [Sky Sports], their lead over Real and Barcelona is razor-thin.
With Arsenal struggling, it’s clear they’ve looked to Celtic for a goalscorer, either directly or by proxy. Dembele’s form for us after signing from Fulham twitched antennae across Europe. Meanwhile, the Gunners have also been supposedly in the hunt for Odsonne Edouard.
Latest reports seem to suggest it’s Leicester City and Brendan Rodgers who’ll be tearing our best striker from us. As either Edouard or Dembele might say: plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose.
