Former Celtic attacking midfielder Kris Commons thinks his ex-teammate James Forrest will be ‘invaluable’ in the Scottish Premiership title run-in.
Forrest was back to his best yesterday away to Livingston, not just scoring a beauty of a third goal but generally causing David Martindale’s side all sorts of problems.
The winger has had a difficult couple of years with injuries and inconsistent form but could be peaking again at the perfect time for Ange Postecoglou.

Commons certainly thinks so.
He wrote in his Scottish Daily Mail column today [07/03 print edition, Verdict supplement page 4]: “He’s been very loyal to Celtic down the years. He could have moved to England for huge money but he wouldn’t have enjoyed the incredible success he has by staying put.
“You simply can’t underestimate what he could be worth to Celtic in the coming weeks. Not many of Ange Postecoglou’s squad have experienced the course and distance of a title race. Joe Hart knows what it takes. As do Callum McGregor, Nir Bitton and Tom Rogic.
“But Forrest won his first title ten years ago and was ever-present as Celtic won nine-in-a-row again. For him to be able to pass that know-how on to boys who haven’t won a league before is absolutely invaluable. He was the best player on the park against Livingston.”
I still think Liel Abada will get more games than Forrest between now and the end of the season, but it’s undeniable that the Scotland international could still play an important role.
He’s at least an option that will give comfort to Postecoglou in terms of depth or another weapon to be used off the bench.
As the manager said in his post-match interview yesterday, Forrest is a winner and we’ll need plenty of those over the next two months.
