Former Celtic winger Lewis Morgan, who left Parkhead in January, has finally won his first game with Inter Miami.
Morgan has been a regular with the MLS new boys since Celtic let him leave at the start of the year. However, despite making five appearances before the weekend, a victory had eluded him.
That was put to an end when Miami overcame Orlando City 3-2 early yesterday morning. Morgan played 77 minutes of the contest, but once again failed to register a goal or an assist.
So far, Celtic treble-winner Morgan only has one assist in his six appearances for the club. That came against DC United back in March before the global health pandemic forced the MLS into a shutdown.
Inter Miami went into lockdown having lost two games out of two, with Morgan playing almost the full 180 minutes.
They then failed to impress at the MLS is Back tournament in Orlando. Miami lost all three matches by one goal, building up more frustration for Morgan and co.
A first for Morgan since December
However, they’ve finally managed to end their barren run. It sees Morgan get his first win on a football pitch since the Betfred Cup final win against Rangers back in December.
For those who have been watching Morgan since his move, it’s clear a year of transition lies ahead for him. Moving from the Premiership to the MLS was always going to be a massive shock in terms of style and the climate.
That’s not to say it wasn’t the right move for him. Morgan should’ve, in truth, been nowhere near the Celtic side in the months leading up to his departure.
Neil Lennon often featured him as a lone-striker due to the club’s lack of depth in the position towards the end of last year. But the winger generally looked out of his depth, struggling massively in Celtic’s higher-profile games.
A fresh start was definitely required for him, and that’s exactly what he’s bagged.
Next up for Morgan’s Inter Miami is a home clash against former MLS Cup winners Atlanta United as he finally looks to build some momentum.
