Celtic goalkeeper Scott Bain must have one of the most intriguing careers of any player in recent memory. From being released by Aberdeen, to falling out of favour at Dundee, to winning a treble with Celtic.
One player who has not been surprised by Bain’s unlikely success story is Sandy Clark. Clark was a coach at Aberdeen when Bain was released by the Pittodrie club.
He always felt that Bain would go on to have a successful career.
“Even then he stood out”
“It just amazes me that Aberdeen later let him go. Even then he stood out as a top goalkeeper” Clark said, as reported by the Scotsman.
“The moral of the story is if you think you’re good enough, don’t give up. He’s a great example of how football can work if you battle through adversity.”
It should not be forgotten that Bain was not brought to Celtic to be the first choice goalkeeper. He was there to be back-up to Craig Gordon.
Forced his way into team
However, he has forced his way into the side and it cannot be denied that he looks set to be the Hoops’ number one goalkeeper for a long time to come.
There is no chance Bain will rest on his laurels though. He will know that he has to keep performing to keep his place in the side.
For now though, Bain looks set for a long spell as Celtic’s goalkeeper. Few would have predicted that only a season ago.
