Celtic fans may start to get excited after Wilfried Nancy was compared to a Champions League winner.

Nancy has become a frontrunner for the Celtic job after his work with Columbus Crew in the MLS.

Paul Tisdale, who is one of those leading the search for Brendan Rodgers’ replacement, reportedly has a good relationship with the Frenchman and that could help with negotiations.

Alistair Johnston also knows Nancy from their time at Nashville together, but apart from that, he is somewhat of an unknown entity.

However, those who know the 48-year-old have tipped him for big things.

Poll: Who would you like to become the new Celtic manager?

Wilfried Nancy compared to Luis Enrique

Former USA international Herculez Gomez has been able to watch the promising manager from afar and was asked by BBC Sport which European coach his style mirrors.

In an honest assessment, Gomez claimed that Celtic supporters could witness something similar to Luis Enrique’s philosophy at Paris Saint-Germain.

He said: “Everybody’s looking for the next big thing.

“If I could get somewhere close to his brand, it would be Luis Enrique’s PSG. Enrique bases his philosophy off the interpretation of space, time and movement. There are no set positions.

“There’s a reason he’s garnering attention. It’s because his brand is so pleasing to the eye. It’s catchy. It can also be a Catch-22 every once in a while, because you’re playing on the edge. It’s a double-sided sword, but certainly he’s been on the better side of that sword.

“I see a lot of traits that could make him successful on a bigger stage, with more money, with more attention, He was MLS coach of the year last year but he didn’t need the title to be regarded as one of the best. He’s immensely respected.

“Certainly the philosophy of, ‘this is who we are, this is how we’re going to play, and we’re not straying from it’ is very much Luis Enrique.”
