Celtic FC Women’s manager Fran Alonso has asked the Hoops support to come along and back the team in its first league game of the season against Edinburgh City, the club’s official Twitter account reports.

Celtic are certainly committed to the Women’s team this season. That was shown when the club made the significant step of announcing that the team would be turning professional for the 2020-2021 season.

New era is set to begin

Now the team will face their first test of the new era, when they take on reigning Women’s Premier League champions Glasgow City, on Friday night.

Alonso, who was appointed as manager of the team last month, hopes that the Hoops support get behind the club’s initiative of the professional Women’s team, starting against Glasgow City.

“It would be wonderful”

The fans are the most important part. It would be wonderful to see a full support at K-Park and hopefully we can give supporters something to cheer about” Alonso said, as quoted by the Hoops’ official Twitter account.

It would certainly be good for the team if a decent crowd was there to support the Women’s side at the start of what is a new era at the club.

However, for any fans who can’t get along to attend the game, the match is going to be live on the BBC Scotland channel on Friday night.

Interestingly, Celtic won the last meeting between the teams 4-1, which hopefully is a taste of what is to come under the new professional era at Celtic Park for the Women’s side.
