Celtic FC Women play their first league fixture as a professional team on Friday evening, and manager Fran Alonso has promised that his side will give it their all against Glasgow City, in quotes obtained by the Celtic Twitter account.
The newly professional outfit take on Glasgow City, who have won the Women’s Scottish Premier League for the last decade. Despite the difficult test, Alonso expects his players to work hard and play with passion on the night.

Alonso is pleased that the first game is against the reigning champions, as he will be able to gauge how much progress has been made since the team became professional.
“We are in a very good place”
“It is the best place to start, I’m very happy with the work we have done so far, the progress that the squad has made…we are in a very good place. On Friday what we can promise is of course is hard work, passion, enthusiasm and try our best” he said, as quoted by Celtic’s Twitter account.
Celtic really have put a lot of effort into the women’s team this season. The fact that Celtic announced in January that the team was going to become professional is the biggest example.
Emphatic cup victory
The team recently signed Anita Marcos on loan from Atletico Madrid, and began the season with a 6-0 win over St Johnstone in the league cup. However, the real test comes against Glasgow.

A win in the first game of the season against Glasgow City would show that the club’s decision has paid off.
For any fans who cannot get along to the K-Park to support the team, the game is live on BBC Alba, with the kick-off at 7:30. Hopefully the historic new era gets off to a spectacular start.
