Frank McAvennie has shared a rumour about Robbie Keane visiting Lennoxtown.
Keane is reportedly Dermot Desmond’s frontrunner for the role, despite Martin O’Neill appearing to still be under consideration.
Talks are taking place in London to decide the man to lead a seismic summer rebuild at Celtic Park, with O’Neill potentially moving into a different position upstairs.
McAvennie can’t fathom why he wouldn’t remain in the dugout.

Frank McAvennie: Watch this space with Martin O’Neill
Speaking on his Let Me Be Frank Podcast, McAvennie said: “There was also rumours [on Monday] that Robbie Keane was at Lennoxtown.
“Listen, it’s social media… I keep saying things, and I’m getting pelters for it. But it’s social media.

“But the couple of things that I was saying a couple of times about people in the know… just watch this space with Martin.
“I think there might be a job for Martin. I would give him it. I can’t understand why he wouldn’t give him it, if he wanted it.
“I think Dermot’s got to say, ‘do you want it?’, and if he wants it, then you’ve got to give him it. Because no other manager could have done that, what he’s done.
“We witnessed a miracle. [O’Neill’s wife] will be delighted he’s not in the house. That’s what Martin will say.
“Martin’s been going about and doing things and speaking to supporters’ clubs all over the world. You’re not going to tell me that’s not made him younger.”‘
McAvennie echoes the sentiment of much of the Parkhead support; O’Neill would be a significantly more well-received appointment than Keane.
If it comes down to these two… who are you picking as Celtic manager?
Robbie Keane in a straight shootout with Martin O’Neill for Celtic job
After securing the league and cup double, O’Neill became the frontrunner for the permanent role in the eyes of many.
This hasn’t prevented Desmond from speaking to Keane, with the pair’s pre-existing relationship well-established among Celtic and Ireland circles.
O’Neill has been vocal about his reservations over the permanent role, especially given the extent of the rebuild that awaits Celtic this summer.
Keane is already lining up his backroom staff ahead of potentially becoming manager.
