When Fraser Forster rejoined Celtic on loan from Southampton this summer, there may have been some doubt about who was going to be the Hoops’ first-choice goalkeeper.

After all, both Craig Gordon and Scott Bain had stints in goals for the Hoops last season. However, since returning to the club, Forster has been instantly installed as the number one goalkeeper.

However, he recognises that if he wants to keep his place in the side, he will need to keep performing at the level he is currently performing at.

It is a first-team battle that the player has admitted that he is currently enjoying.

“It’s a fantastic atmosphere. We all know how hard the position is. We all want the best for the others” he said, as reported by the Scottish Sun.

“Those guys are Scotland internationals and very good keepers. As a player, you have to support the others. That’s the main thing – to help the team.”

Forster’s attitude is the correct one to have. It shows that he is a team player, who is willing to support his fellow goalkeepers.

Manager’s selection for cup tie will be intriguing

It will be interesting to see who Neil Lennon selects as goalkeeper for Saturday’s Betfred Cup semi-final against Hibs.

So far Craig Gordon has got the nod to start in that particular cup competition this season. However, so well has Forster been performing recently that Neil Lennon may decide to keep playing Forster. That might not be the worst decision, although Gordon might not be pleased about possibly missing out on a game.
