Veteran Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster has revealed an interesting fact about Hoops team-mate Jonny Hayes. In an interview with the club’s YouTube channel, he named the utility man as the player with the hardest shot at the club.
“Very good strike”
“Jonny Hayes – when he hits it with his left foot it’s ridiculous, he’s got a very good strike” the Hoops shot-stopper said.
That comment might take some Celtic fans by surprise. The reason for that is that Hayes has scored two goals for the Hoops since joining the club, and neither have been hard shots.
They have both been tap-ins, firstly against Aberdeen, and then more recently against Rangers. Perhaps Hayes’ shots on goal are a weapon that can be utilized by Celtic more often.
Rarely used attribute when playing for Hoops
When Hayes has featured recently for the Hoops, it is been at left-back, or on the wing. He has rarely drifted into the middle of the park.
The one time he did was against Rangers, and it paid off as he scored for the Hoops. Therefore, Neil Lennon should perhaps encourage Hayes to take more shots on goal.
If Fraser Forster thinks that a player has a hard shot, it should be worth taking into account. He faces shots at training every day, so he should know. Hayes’ shot could add a new aspect to Celtic’s game. Who knows, should Hayes use this shot more, he could make Celtic’s starting line-up more often than he has done recently.
