Celtic’s on-loan goalkeeper Fraser Forster has not yet given up hope on one more playing for England.

Forster made the comment to the Celtic Twitter account, revealing that hoping to regain his international place pushes him to work even harder as a Celtic player.

“I want to try and get back in the England squad and that just makes me want to work that bit harder. So it’s a case of trying to play as well as I can here and see what happens” he said.

Forster has made six appearances for England, the last coming in 2016 against Australia. He was dropped from the England squad in 2017, and has not featured since then.

Forster’s comments can only be a good thing for Celtic. The fact that he is willing too work even harder than he already is sounds promising.

When you consider how well he has played since returning to Celtic from Southampton, the fact that he wants to get even better bodes well for the rest of Celtic’s season.

England boss will be aware of recent performances

England boss Gareth Southgate will no do doubt be aware of Forster’s recent performances in Celtic’s two victories over Lazio. The Hoops goalkeeper pulled off a string of great saves in both games to help Celtic to two memorable victories.

If that isn’t enough to get him into the England squad, then it is hard to see what performance will. However, it is good to see that Forster has not given up on once more playing for his country.

Hopefully he achieves that goal in his current spell with Celtic. That will show that his performances have been so good, that he has be given an England call-up. The next England game isn’t until March. If Forster can play as well as he is now until March, then not only should he receive an England call-up, but Celtic should be clear at the top of the league.
