Former Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster got a massive opportunity tonight, helping Southampton keep a clean sheet at home to Liverpool.

Alex McCarthy is suffering from Covid-19, which meant that Forster started his first match in the English Premier League since May 2019.

In truth, he didn’t have much to do against the league champions. He was required to make just one save throughout the 90 minutes [WhoScored].

Liverpool looked pretty toothless at St Mary’s and the defeat is a blow for their title defence.

Forster made a bold choice to return to Southampton during the summer transfer window, knowing he would be on the bench for large chunks of the campaign.

However, having remained patient for his chance, this appearance will have done him no harm at all.

Liverpool won’t have enjoyed going up against Fraser Forster.

Celtic goalkeeper woes go on

Back at Celtic, Neil Lennon still hasn’t found a stable number one.

Vasilis Barkas still has big question marks hanging over him. Scott Bain is a distant number three right now. Meanwhile, Conor Hazard wasn’t trusted to start against Rangers.

Unfortunately, we just couldn’t manage to convince Forster his long-term future was in Glasgow.

The former England international will be hoping this appearance leads to more this season.

If he can become a regular in the English top-flight over the next 12 months, whether at Saints or another team, you’d have to say his decision was justified.

In other news, Celtic have spoken out after a shocking incident at Ibrox.
