Fraser Forster plays down recent Celtic penalty save

Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster has played down his penalty heroics which helped the Hoops to a 3-1 win over Kilmarnock on Sunday.

In the last few minutes of the game, Forster saved Alan Power’s penalty to end any thoughts of a Kilmarnock comeback.

However, speaking to Celtic’s YouTube channel, Forster wasn’t making a big deal of his achievement.

“It’s just something we work on, every now and again in training” he said.

“The more penalties you face, the more different ideas you pick up. You just get a feeling and go with your gut.”

Forster might be playing down his achievements, but he has saved two of the three penalties he has faced for the Hoops since his return to the club.

As revealed by the Scotsman, he has saved 13 penalties from the 34 he has faced in his career, that is a record that any goalkeeper would be proud of.

There is no doubt that Forster deserves to be Celtic’s current number one goalkeeper. He has proved that in the short time he has been at the club.

His excellent record when it comes to saving penalties is just one of a number of reasons why Neil Lennon trusts Forster to be the man in goals for the Hoops.

He will be a key man for the Hoops in both the battle to reach the last 32 of the Europa League, and in the continuing pursuit of nine in a row. Hopefully at the end of the season, with the title once more won, he can join the Hoops on a permanent basis.
