Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster has not played that many games with Christopher Jullien and Kristoffer Ajer as the centre-backs in front.
However, after playing with the duo in Celtic’s recent 1-1 draw with Rennes Forster has tipped great things for the duo, even after Ajer’s mistake lead to a Rennes penalty in the first-half.
“It’s one of them, the more games they play together the more that partnership will build and build” Forster said, as reported by the Evening Times.
“Done really well”
“I think they’ve done really well, they’re good on the ball, they get on the ball and play from the back which is good. The penalty is a penalty and that can happen to anyone, but no, I’ve been very impressed by the two of them.”
Jullien has overcome a slow start to his Celtic career to become a rock at centre-back in recent weeks. He was superb in the recent win over Rangers, and was equally as good against Rennes.
Even though he made a mistake against Rennes, Ajer has been in great form for Celtic over the past year.
Forster will know a good defender when he sees one
Forster played with some excellent centre-backs in his first spell at Celtic. The best of the lot being of course, recent Champions League winner Virgil Van Dijk. Therefore, he will know a good defender when he sees one.
It is unlikely that either Jullien or Ajer will become as good a player as Van Dijk has turned out to be. That does not mean that they won’t be very good players for Celtic. The duo’s partnership at Cetic has only lasted a few games. However, it does look like it will be the one which will be at the heart of the Celtic defence for years to come.
