A fresh clip has emerged from the aftermath of Celtic’s late winner at Pittodrie, and shows a class moment between captain Callum McGregor and the Hoops supporters.
Yesterday was a big day for Ange Postecoglou. The Greek-Australian was in need of a big away result, and his side showed some character and quality to snatch a late success through goals from Kyogo Furuhashi and Jota.
McGregor, of course, has been one of the stalwarts so far this season. He’s taken to his captaincy duties well as he continues to be one of the standout performers of the campaign. And below, you can see the brilliant moment he rushed to the Celtic supporters after Jota stabbed home the late winner with minutes to go:
The footage, clearly taken in the home end, shows McGregor immediately running to the away end after Jota’s goal. Whilst the rest of his teammates immediately go over to congratulate the goalscorer, Cal takes the time to gee up the travelling support and celebrate with them instead.
It’s a great move from the Celtic captain. It’s absolutely vital that the away support is acknowledged for their incredible support throughout the afternoon. And considering some of the performances we’ve had to sit through this season, it was a sign of how much it meant to Callum.
McGregor has been a popular figure since replacing Scott Brown as captain in the summer. As he gradually grows into the role of being the team’s on-field leader, he now looks to be thriving in his new role.
Callum McGregor shows what it means to be Celtic captain
This deserves to be highlighted and acknowledged. Why it’s so important is again what it represents to supporters. It shows them that this means a lot to their captain just as much as it means a lot to us.
It’s good for fans to be able to see their players show their emotions. The fact that McGregor’s first reaction was to run to the away supporters is class to see.
Going through the difficult spell we currently are, it’s vital that Celtic continue to stick together. Whilst questions will continue to be asked of the manager and the players, it’s important to have moments like this.

It’s no surprise that the Celtic supporters who have noticed this from McGregor have absolutely loved it. It shows their captain is at heart a fan.
Granted, we won’t pretend that anything matters more than results. The Celtic fans would quite happily be ignored all season if it meant taking home the title once again. But it was good to see this level of care towards the fanbase from the captain.
Hopefully, yesterday helps rally the club into a period of dominance over the next couple of months. Goodness knows we need it.
