Former Celtic striker Gary Hooper has shared a fan’s post on Twitter calling on his return to Neil Lennon’s side this summer.
Goalkeeper Fraser Forster is reportedly on his way to Celtic to complete a medical today, ahead of a loan switch from Southampton (BBC).
With Neil Lennon also installed as manager, some fans are reminiscing about the team during his first spell at the club.
Both players were of course a massive part of the success enjoyed by that team at home and abroad.
The free agent striker is apparently enjoying seeing his former teammate Forster return, retweeting one fan’s jovial call for Lennon to get the old band back together.
Gary Hooper to Celtic?
Hooper is still only 31 and hasn’t signed for a club so far this summer. He is likely an affordable option to provide back-up at Celtic.
The forward left Sheffield Wednesday at the end of last season after injury struggles. The year prior in 2017/18, he managed to hit double figures for the club in the English Championship.
Lennon is already showing he’s not averse to bringing some former stars back to the club with the move for Forster.
Back in May, The Scottish Sun reported that the manager was keen on a move for the striker this summer.
A Hooper signing isn’t likely to be very inspiring for the support. However, with Vakoun Bayo not showing much progress, do Celtic need another experienced striker to complement Leigh Griffiths and Odsonne Edouard?
His 82 goals in 138 appearances for Celtic suggest he is more than capable of doing a job in Scotland, even though he’s not quite at his peak.
Given Lennon’s prior reported interest, it’s one to watch in the final days of the transfer window.
