Celtic’s stalemate with Rangers keeps the title race wide open as we head into the Scottish Premiership top-six split and the final games of the season.
In a game where Brendan Rodgers may well look back and say, ‘What if…’ a draw is not the worst result that Celtic could have got as many were tipping Rangers to come out on top.
But forgetting the controversial VAR decision for a minute, if you look at the game in the cold light of day, it was one of the most exciting finishes to a Glasgow Derby we have seen in a number of years.
Adam Idah must have thought his name was written in the stars after his 86th-minute goal hit the back of the net right after Rangers equalised to make it 2-2.
However, it wasn’t meant to be as the Ibrox club equalised late on through Rabbi Matondo which meant the spoils were shared as the title race continues to its climax heading into the split.
Gary Lineker delivers title prediction after Celtic draw
Former Spurs striker and England legend, Gary Lineker, was absolutely blown away by the game and couldn’t believe what he was watching.
Speaking last night, Lineker delivered his thoughts on the draw and the race for the title as nothing changed at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
Lineker said [The Rest is Football], “Before we go did you manage to catch a bit of the Old F*rm game?
“Blimey that was a bonkers game. There was like 21 seconds for the first goal for Celtic and Rangers equalised to 2-2 in like the 86th minute then Celtic scored again.
“And then Rangers scored a 93rd-minute equaliser and that title race is, I mean there’s only two teams in Scotland and it’s obviously those two teams but that could go to the wire as well.”
Celtic and Rangers’ remaining fixtures before the split
With the top six split coming at the end of April, Celtic still have one fixture to negotiate whilst Rangers have two remaining games.
The title race will still have twists and turns so here are the remaining games both teams must play before the final stretch of the season kicks in:
- Dundee v Rangers – 10th April at Dens Park: 8pm kick off
- Celtic v St Mirren – 13th April at Celtic Park: 3pm kick off
- Ross County v Rangers – 14th April at Victoria Park: 12pm kick off
So there is all to play for as the title race hots up and the next seven days could see more controversy as both teams look to get the advantage at the top of the table.
