Celtic easily have the best midfield in the country.
Brendan Rodgers likes to play with three central midfielders and his current options are abundant with quality, experience, guile and creativity.
Captain Callum McGregor is the most experienced midfielder in the Scottish Premiership and is one of Celtic’s most decorated players ever.
Reo Hatate is classy, creative and has an excellent passing range that many Premiership players can only dream of possessing.
There’s also Arne Engels and new signing Benjamin Nygren, with the likes of Luke McCowan and Paulo Bernardo further down the pecking order.
So who has the second-best midfield in the Premiership? Many would point to Rangers, but not St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson.

Stephen Robinson thinks St Mirren have best midfield outside of Celtic
Robinson has been speaking to the press ahead of St Mirren’s home clash against Motherwell on Saturday and made a bold statement.
He thinks his current midfield options at St Mirren are the best outside of Celtic in the Scottish top-flight – better than Rangers, Hearts, Hibs and so on.
St Mirren just re-signed Keanu Baccus, while they also possess the likes of Liam Donnelly, Killian Phillips, Mark O’Hara and others.
Robinson said: “If you look at our midfield players – Liam Donnelly who has still not featured with injury – the strength we’ve got in there, it’s arguably one of the best midfields in the league, which is amazing to say that as manager of St Mirren.
“It gives us a real base to build from. But it gives me problems, real selection problems I have to say.
“It’s what I believe. You know, I genuinely believe, perhaps outwith Celtic, we’ve got five really, really good players. I believe we have really good midfield players who can match anybody on their day.”
Celtic understand strength of St Mirren midfield
It’s bold to suggest St Mirren have the second-best midfield in the Scottish Premiership, but perhaps Robinson has a point.
The Hoops’ last two league games have come against the Buddies, the draw in May on Trophy Day and the opening day win on Sunday.
St Mirren led Celtic on the final game of the Premiership last season before James Forrest scored his historic goal to bail the team out and snatch a draw.
Robinson’s midfield are dogged, organised and hard to break down. It was exactly what they showed again at the weekend in Glasgow.
They were very close to denying Celtic a win and put in an excellent performance, with the likes of O’Hara and Phillips impressing.
