‘Getting the statements ready’; Fans loved Celtic’s cheeky dig at Rangers this week

Celtic’s social media efforts took an amusing turn this week in the promotion of another season of The Celtic View.

The in-house club magazine first hit the shelves on August 11, 1965, meaning they are celebrating their 55th year in existence.

In other words, they’re ‘going for 55’.

That phrase has been much used by fans of Rangers for a decade, believing that they can ignore liquidation and claim to have won 54 league titles prior to our current nine-in-a-row run.

Every year since promotion to the Scottish Premiership it’s been their time to finally win 55.

Fans even unveiled an Ibrox display prior to the 2016/17 season using the slogan (Scottish Sun).

Celtic though clearly see the funny side of Rangers’ constant status as also-rans, using the term to advertise this week’s Celtic View return.

It’s a bit of amusing patter prior to the Premiership kick-off this week and a sign of the new jovial tone that the Celtic social media accounts have taken over the last few months.

Clubs across Europe have seen tweets go viral as a result of comedy from account admins and perhaps that’s something that the Scottish champions are now looking into more.

Regardless, fans were loving the cheeky dig and are clearly excited about shutting down talk of ’55’ for another season as we go for our tenth title in a row.
